Pearls take Zamia back to Margarita Island, back at home in Venezuela. Me and my family visited that magical place every summer. Foreign travellers and locals would comb the beaches selling all sorts of things. From onsite made ceviche, temp tattoos, cocktails to -of course- handmade jewellery.
What really got me was the freshwater pearl necklaces sold by foreigners to fund their travels throughout South America, as a little girl I found this so fascinating as well as inspiring. Pearls will always remind me of my grandma, balmy summer nights and bright hot days spent in waters on The Caribbean.
