I love a great pair of underpants, and over the years I’ve tried almost every New Zealand brand I could get my hands on. I’m always hunting for something that feels good on my body, treads lightly on the planet, and will actually last. So when I slipped a few pairs of Rachel Mills underwear into my pack for the Kepler and Routeburn tracks, I was quietly hopeful they’d stand up to the test

Made right here in Aotearoa from organic cotton and merino, Rachel’s briefs are thoughtfully designed to suit however you like to wear them – from a cheeky cut, to a low rise, or the comfort of a full brief. I went for the mesh full brief and the easy mid French brief in merino and they were a dream. Breathable, comfortable, and surprisingly stylish for multi-day tramping – and best of all, they’ve held their shape, colour and softness since.

What I especially admire is Rachel’s approach to business: she makes to order, uses end-of-roll fabrics, and keeps her price point fair – proving that slow, sustainable fashion can be both accessible and enduring.
