On Mothering

On Mothering

Mother is one of the 23 oldest words in all languages.

It comes from the Latin word “mater” - matter, pronounced “mah-ter” and this inextricably links us to the earth, the mother of us all. We come from and return to the unseen realms that the feminine is so deeply connected to.

Whether you’re a mother, hoping to be one or feeling a mix of emotions this coming Mother’s Day remember you are an expression of the gifts your female lineage has developed.

We will have a different story around motherhood, mothering and how this has shaped our life.  This is a day of celebration but may also bring forth feelings of grief for what we’ve lost, what we miss or are yearning for.

We encourage you to feel the spectrum of your experience and use rituals to process and honour your feelings.

It may be fun to pull out old recipes, do some preserving or baking and bring to life stories or objects that may have been passed down from your female lines. It’s a moment to  read aloud diary entries, play family games and recall good memories.

If the day is more tender for you you may like to feel the embrace of the forest, take a walk at the beach, sit in tea ceremony and write some words that come to mind….only to let them go.

Lighting a candle and burning some incense can be a beautiful way to communicate with the unseen and to sit in meditation and prayer is always sacred.

Seek help and support in all the ways you feel to, you’re worthy and deserving of a well lived life - many of the women before us endured consistent hardship and it can feel a blessing to be here and now and a responsibility to curate a meaningful life. So go easy.

As a team we all agreed mothers day is a time to both honour our mothers, grandmothers and mother figures and continue to develop our own internal mothering skills and build a sisterhood that holds us as the generations change.

We are thinking of you too and send you a big mothering hug.
