Daniela Kowhai makes candles in Northland the way candles were always meant to be made, slowly, by hand, from pure New Zealand beeswax and an unbleached cotton wick.
Her studio practice, Eco Art, is rooted in traditional hand skills, natural materials and a genuinely low-impact way of living that extends from how the candles are made to what they are made from.
Pure beeswax burns cleanly and carries a faint natural warmth, a quality that synthetic waxes cannot replicate, no matter how carefully they are formulated.
Daniela preserves that quality in every piece, working slowly enough to honour the material and the craft.
