Are smoothies really that good for me? - Tea & Tonic Matakana

Are smoothies really that good for me?

In our Holistic Health tip series we answer questions that have been asked instore to help with wellness. This week's question is all about smoothies. Are they really that good for me?

Yes they are! Smoothies are a great option to replace a meal, light enough so you don't feel too full and a great way to pack in nutrients for your general wellness.

As smoothies can be cold and our body loves to keep our digestive fire stoked it’s best to enjoy smoothies in summer or to add warming herbs like fresh ginger to aid digestion and assimilation.

A smoothie is a great way to pack in nutrition and you can include berries, bananas, spirulina, soaked dates & soaked and peeled almonds. Always wash the berries first!

  • A little ginger mixed with berries, bananas and coconut water makes a delicious smoothie
  • Add some fresh kale and spirulina to pack in your green nutrition or for a sweet dessert use frozen bananas, berries, cacao and dates
  • Sprinkle cacao nibs on top for extra energy and nutrition

Smoothies are great for breakfast and/or afternoon tea, as a meal replacement and you can consume them on the go.

It’s worth keeping your fridge and freezer ready stocked with ingredients and taking five minutes to make a delicious seasonal blend.

How do you have your smoothies? What do you love putting in yours the most? Let us know in the comments below.
