The work of Monique Jansen (Ngati Porou) is rooted in whakapapa and a close relationship with the natural world, created using natural pigments sustainably foraged from native plants and Indian ink applied with brushes and calligraphy tools.
Every shade is drawn directly from the land itself, the soft pink of puriri bark, the earthy tones of windswept coastlines, the greens of native flora and the ever-changing shades of ocean blue.
Each artwork is an offering, made with genuine care for the land it depicts.
